A space to understand yourself and find your way forward

You may be going through a difficult season or life transition, feeling overwhelmed, or noticing patterns that leave you feeling stuck. Sometimes you know exactly what you want help with. Other times, you simply know that something doesn’t feel right. Individual therapy offers a place to slow down, make sense of your emotions and experiences, and feel supported as you work toward meaningful change.

At Therapy With Heart, we want this to be a place that helps you move from stuck to growth.

What We Can Help With

Individual therapy can support you with:

  • Life transitions: Navigating changes in relationships, work, parenthood, identity, or other important parts of your life.
  • Stress: Making room for your own needs while managing overwhelm, burnout, and daily demands.
  • Grief and loss: Finding support as you live with the loss of a loved one, a relationship, or a future you had imagined.
  • Trauma: Exploring how painful experiences continue to affect you and working toward greater safety and choice in your life.
  • Depression: Understanding feelings of sadness, disconnection, hopelessness, or self-criticism and finding ways to reconnect with yourself and others.
  • Anxiety: Making sense of worry, fear, and the pressure to stay in control while developing ways to feel more grounded.
  • Anger management: Recognizing what happens when anger takes over, understanding what is underneath it, and learning to express your feelings and needs in ways that support your relationships.
  • Emotional awareness: Learning to recognize, understand, and express your emotions so they can help guide you rather than leave you feeling overwhelmed or shut down.
  • Relationship patterns: Exploring how you connect with others, respond to conflict, assert yourself, and ask and receive support.

Our Approach

Our work is grounded in Emotionally Focused Individual Therapy, or EFIT, an attachment-based approach that helps you understand your emotional experiences and the ways you have learned to protect yourself. We approach these patterns with curiosity and compassion, recognizing that they often developed for understandable reasons.

In therapy, we help you explore difficult feelings at a pace that feels manageable, recognize your needs, and develop new ways of responding to yourself and others. Our hope is to support you in feeling more secure within yourself and more connected in your relationships.

Depending on your needs and your therapist’s training, we may also integrate Internal Family Systems, Somatic Experiencing, or Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, known as EMDR. Your therapist will talk with you about these options and collaborate with you on an approach that fits your goals.

What to Expect

Your first appointment is an opportunity for your therapist to get to know you, understand what brings you in, and hear what you hope to gain from therapy. Together, you will explore your current concerns, important experiences and relationships, and the strengths that have helped you along the way. You do not need to share everything at once or have all the answers. Your therapist will work with you to develop a plan and check in with you throughout the process about how therapy is feeling and what is helping.
