Families are complicated! We work from a model in working with families of all ages that is powerful and effective named Emotionally Focused Family Therapy (EFFT). EFFT therapists focus on the emotional experience within a family and explore the dynamics and patterns that can prevent family members from feeling more connected and loved.
EFFT provides a practical approach to engaging families and promote their ability to connect to each other through the power of emotional experiences that support healing and foster a family’s resilience to the everyday and unexpected challenges of life.
Although we work with families of all ages, adolescence brings along a unique complexity. It is a time of many changes, mentally, physically and emotionally. During times of significant change, teenagers beliefs about themselves can drastically change. Research suggests that 50% of teens struggle with low self-esteem.
The transition between junior high and high school, along with high school to college (or alternative plans), are stressful times for teens due to the change in their identity. During adolescence, teens are working on creating their identity and feeling comfortable in their world. When settings change, this causes chaos and confusion for the teen. We offer individual therapy for the teenager in addition to the family therapy component depending on the specific needs to the adolescent.
