Valencia Roston is currently pursuing her master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy at Northcentral University. She received her bachelor’s degree in human development and Family Studies from Michigan State University. Valencia is an intern at Therapy with Heart under the supervision of Rachel Thomas, LMFT.
Valencia has experience with working in several behavioral health settings for the past 6 years. During her undergraduate education she worked with at risk youth as a child welfare worker in Lansing’s District Court. After completing her bachelor’s degree, she provided Applied Behavioral Analysis to children and adults with Autism as a Certified Registered Behavior Technician. Valencia also has experience as a behavioral health therapist at an inpatient psychiatric care center for adolescents and adults at Banner Hospital.
Valencia knew that Marriage and Family Therapy was the right career for her because of the passion that she has for helping others. She recognizes that her work with clients will have an ultimate impact on assisting others with daily challenges in their lives. Time that is spent towards helping others can make people’s lives more functional, productive, and full of connection and love. Previous life experiences that Valencia has endured makes the work at Therapy with Heart meaningful and makes her work with clients more authentic and genuine. Valencia is very adept around others emotions and has the fortitude, willingness, and sensitivity to bear witness to them.
